Install Vinyl Siding
Tips and How To's
Vinyl siding has been considered as the
most popular among the exterior building materials that are
being used today. It is used for remodeling purposes as
homeowners replace cover wood siding or old aluminum siding, as
these are a lot more difficult to care for and maintain.
Now if you are planning to install the siding on your own,
you need to know that it would require some skill, the proper
equipment and a couple of layout skills. Here are a couple more
things to know about the installation of vinyl siding.
1. You would need to be equipped with some basic tools
before you start to install your siding.
2. The surface where you would be applying it has to be
as solid and as smooth as possible. It would be imperative to
seal any energy leaks. Also remember to caulk all the cracks
that are present around your doors and windows before you
proceeding any further in the installation.
3. If you are planning to increase energy efficiency, you
might have to install some foil faced foam. This would
particularly be advisable if you would be installing
vinyl over an existing wood or brick-sided house. Now, if
you are interested in finding out how to properly install vinyl
siding on your new home, you need to make sure that you have
already been able to instruct your builder to install the foil
faced foam sheathing along with an air or water infiltration
barrier.
4. You also need to keep in mind that vinyl siding would not
be solid. If you would be looking at it from the side, it could
be a bit unattractive. Now, if you are working with it in warm
weather, then you might find the trim and siding very pliable.
You would be able to readily cut it using tin snips.
5. You would also have to consider that there are a couple
of special ways in which the trim should be cut and nailed.
Manufacturers usually publish some kind of handy installation
guidebook that comes with easy to understand language, complete
with effective illustrations which would be able to give you
the accurate details on how to install your vinyl siding. You
would jut need to follow the given instructions so rain water
would not be getting behind the siding and trim.
